Poppleston Allen
Poppleston Allen is a niche solicitors practice dedicated to the leisure industry. They deal exclusively with licensing law, licensing procedures, regulatory crime and training. Established in 1994 it has achieved a high national profile with an experienced and knowledgeable team.
Under the 2003 Licensing Act, anyone wishing to sell alcohol, or provide certain forms of entertainment has to adhere to a dual system of licensing with personal and premises licences. Poppleston Allen is the largest licensing practice in the country with 10 solicitors acting for a wide range of clients - from pubs to pizza restaurants and bowling alleys to live music venues – as a result they are able to draw on a wealth of experience and knowledge.
Their expertise covers all licensing matters relating to liquor, entertainment and betting and gaming. In addition, they can advise in criminal cases that are ancillary to licensing, ranging from charges under the Trade Description Act to Health and Safety Act infringements and other regulatory crime.
Poppleston Allen’s website contains a wealth of legal information as well as providing a FREE Licensed Trade eNews, for those who wish to keep up-to-date on developments in the law affecting the licensed trade. To subscribe or find out more click on www.popall.co.uk
Their website includes 'Applications Online' where you can apply for your own personal or premises licence. You will need to complete a detailed questionnaire. One of their legal team will check the answers and will then consult you further, complete an application form and send it, with the fee and supplementary information to the appropriate authorities.
The firm has also created employment law web pages with contracts of employment, due diligence packs and online data viewing for leisure clients. They also have an 'out of hours' service for changing the DPS and run an emergency advice service called Licence999 (See www.licence999.co.uk ).
