Property details
The Duke of Wellington is a traditional stone-built double-fronted pub steeped in history, it is situated in the Welsh village of Trevor which lies in the scenic Vale of Llangollen and makes up part of the bustling county of Wrexham. The pub is just off the A539 which is the busy road connecting Wrexham with Llangollen. The name Trevor is an anglicized version of the Welsh place name Trefor, meaning “Large village”. The pub benefits from being just a stone’s throw from the Pontcysylte aqueduct which attracts thousands of visitors each year.
As expected from the nature of this periodic pub the inside has a traditional and welcoming feel. The main bar servery has a good range of products including a great array of cask ales which are very popular with the locals. There is scope to develop the product range in line with current market trades including developing a more vibrant spirit range. The front of the pub has two snug rooms which collectively seat around 50 – 60 diners/ drinkers, the cosy log fire is a welcome addition to the character of this pub. The fixtures and fittings are an eclectic mix of both loose and fixed and are in keeping with the current style of the pub.
Towards the rear of the pub is the ladies toilets which lead onto a paved patio area that has a small, covered smoking solution, this area also has an outbuilding where in keeping with the tradition of the building, houses the gents’ toilets. There is a rear secondary beer garden. At the front of the pub, there is parking for cars, although given its location most locals enjoy a leisurely walk to and from the pub. The front beer garden is a real asset with a very unique, this grassed area could easily be transformed for events and is a real sun trap during those summer months.
The private accommodation consists of three bedrooms, one bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen (this is currently used for private and commercial use that has been upgraded by the current tenant.

The Duke of Wellington is a warm and welcoming community pub, the previous tenant has really embedded the pub amongst locals and has been very well supported. There is a strong focus on cask ale and a simple food offer. It has a good reputation and has been popular for a variety of sports teams and live music over the weekend, which the new tenant would need to look to reintroduce. There is huge growth to be unlocked in terms of beer festivals and community events in the spectacular beer garden.
This gem of a pub needs a community-focused licensee who can see the opportunities and have the skill set to unlock them. Excellent retail standards are a must along with a clear vision for embracing the local community with a strong rhythm of the week ensuring the pub is busy 7 days a week.
