The South Western Arms, St Denys, is an imposing large builiding with a traditional brick and wood interior throughout. The entrance floor is also wood, with Karndean in front of the bar. There is a raised area to the left hand side of the pub laid out as a snug area with sofas, 8 covers and a real wood log burner adding to the cosy feel. This area also houses the ladies toilets.
The bar is L shaped to the right hand side of the ground floor, with a small store room directly behind it. The pub is renowned for its real ale range and has 10 hand pulls which have recently been replaced with a new ale python.
The trading area is a mix of low level sofa seating, high tables and traditional tables with seating for 30.
There is a mezzanine first floor with a pool table and low level seating for 20. This area is popular with students who come to play pool and table games. This area can also be adapted and used for small functions.
The pub has a large enclosed garden which backs onto the railway line, this is accessed from the rear of the pub.The garden has a covered smoking area with seating for 32 via wooden picnic tables, then the large garden is split into two areas on with a brick built fish pond feature. These area have seating for 80 people. This area is popular with BBQs in the summer.
The garden is the USP of the pub and in the summer months doubles the capacity of the pub.
There is one set of gents and ladies toilets with two cublicles in each.
The cellar is ground floor and accessed from the end of the bar and has rear access for deliveries. Additionally, there is a large wooden shed which could be used for keeping external cushions and umbrellas dry int the winter months.
There is no trade kitchen or scope to add one, however the pub has a pizza van in the car park from Wednesday to Saturday which is popular and customers can purchase their food to enjoy with a drink in the pub, therefore increasing dwell time.
There is limited accessibility in the venue due to the large step at the front door.
There are two AWPs, one pool table, one football table and a dart board.
Private Accommodation
The private accommodation is a two bedroom house which is attached and can be accessed from the pub via the mezzanine top floor, but also has it's own standalone front door street access with a private driveway providing offroad parking.
The house consists of a downstairs lounge, dining room and kitchen/utility room, then on the first floor there are two bedrooms; one double and one single. There is a bathroom with a bath with shower over, toilet and sink.
