Property details
The Silks on the Downs is a community-owned country pub trading successfully in the village of Ogbourne St Andrew at the heart of the Marlborough Downs AONB. Located less than 2 miles North of Marlborough on the A346 and 8 miles South of Swindon, the pub has a long-established reputation as a destination restaurant, whilst being a local community pub for the adjacent villages. The pub’s accessibility via the A346 ensures a wide catchment area for visitors, and its community appeal draws in the locals from the surrounding villages. Its location ensures a steady stream of walkers and outdoor pursuit enthusiasts.
The pub was bought by the community in May 2022, and after an extensive refurbishment was opened in September 2022. The community is passionate about the pub and its support for it and wishes to retain its welcoming and vibrant character. The current tenant, MasterChef Champion, has developed the pub and its proposition over the past two years and is now moving on to the next chapter in his career.
Internally, the pub has a bar with ample seating for drinkers and four different dining areas: An enclosed snug for 6 diners, bar dining for 4-6, the main restaurant with 28-30 covers, and a closed-off front dining area for a further 16-18 seating capacity, which also doubles up as a private function room.
At the rear, the pub has a beer garden with seating for approximately 30 guests, with a mixture of garden benches and tables, overlooking the river Og onto meadows. There is parking for 19 vehicles with front, side, and rear parking areas.
There are two en-suite bedrooms for rent or occupation as well as a small office, which were fully refurbished in 2025.
