The village is affluent with its large houses and sprawling gardens, a pretty village church (frequented for weddings), a local primary school, cricket club which make this a sociable village. Alongside this, the Bridgewater Canal runs through the village and attracts both boaters and walkers.
The village has some interesting history including a carving of a cat on the village church tower, which was thought to be the inspiration for the Cheshire Cat in Lewis Carroll’s book ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’.
