Based in the heart of Stockport for almost two centuries, and owning around 270 tenanted and managed pubs, inns and hotels across the North West, ‘Robinsons’ is one of oldest and most respected names in British brewing history.
A proud family of independent brewers, Robinsons is one of the most advanced and sophisticated breweries in the UK, with a worldwide reputation for real ale. From here we apply decades of experience to create exciting new varieties and choices of flavour that will lead us towards our next award-winning beer.
Robinsons - brewing perfection since 1838
THERE ARE MANY PUB OPERATORS AND FAMILY BREWERS, ALL LOOKING FOR THE BEST PEOPLE TO RUN THEIR PUBS, SO WHY WOULD YOU CHOOSE US?
Our incredible story began on the 29th September 1838 when William Robinson decided to buy a small pub in Stockport called The Unicorn Inn.
Since we began in 1838, we’ve remained a family-run business, nurturing skills and knowledge developed and passed down from generation to generation for almost 180 years.
What we do is more than just our profession, it’s our passion… and it’s helped us grow into one of the UK’s largest family brewers with 280 tenanted and managed pubs across the North West.
We recognise that every new relationship we create signals the start of an exciting partnership; one that’s based on trust and the mutual appreciation of fantastic beer in a welcoming environment. Indeed, we’ve been in this business for almost 180 years and even after all this time, now is a great time to join.
We’re modernising the business, we’re committed to investing in our pub estate, year after year, and we offer the very best support, at every step of the journey, giving our licensees the best chance of business success. We also have a number of great opportunities in our managed pubs.
We also believe our customers deserve more than just our great beer. Whether it’s cellar training, customer service training, food support, help with menu design, website support, or engaging customers via social media. We have it all here, in-house, to give you the kind of support that’s focused on your success, not just ours.
So we’ll be here, every day, every year, through thick and thin, to help you grow and prosper. After all… that’s what families are about.

We take quality seriously. We know how important it is to cask drinkers – in fact to all drinkers. That’s why, for instance, all our beers are tested in our labs every step of the way. So when they arrive in our pub’s cellar, they’re in immaculate condition. Then it’s over to our licensees to pour the perfect pint.
Our family of ales includes heritage brews such as Old Tom (first brewed in 1899 and winner of the World’s Best Ale) and Unicorn (born in 1896 and a gold medal winner at the Brewing Industry International Awards).
We also offer lively young ales such as Dizzy Blonde and TROOPER (a beer created in collaboration with heavy metal rock legends Iron Maiden).
The Robinsons range consists of a wide selection of permanent cask ales, speciality keg and smooth ales, and a variety of unique seasonal ales that change every two months throughout the year (giving our customers the chance to sample something extra special).
For those finishing touches, we also have our own innovative pump clip designs that feature a tab system at the top and bottom, as well as a variety of materials, including slate, wood and tile. Click here for more information.
Bobek (8 years old) and Mojo (4 years old) are the latest in a long line of Shire horses which, apart from a brief interruption during the First World War when all horses were sold for war duties, have served Robinsons Brewery for over 100 years.
In their heyday, before the arrival of the internal combustion engine, Robinsons Shires were in the main brewery yard working every day to deliver traditionally brewed ales to local inns and hostelries. However their primary use was inter-brewery work: moving bottles and cases between Unicorn and Hempshaw Brook fantastic in the 1950’s. The Shires also moved cinders from the main yard, spent hops and waste paper
